One of the privileges of being a caterer is that we often get to share in some really wonderful and exciting life moments for others. Moments such as a retirement, like that of our customer, Mary, from this week who celebrated an end to nearly 40 years of teaching primary school.

With the summer holidays and the end of the school year coming up, Mary is saying goodbye to her life as a teacher and so decided to celebrate in style with family, friends and co-workers by putting together a little party at a venue and inviting in the roast dining of Hog Roast Ashton Under Lyne catering.

Mary had first tried Hog Roast Ashton Under Lyne’s catering some years back when her headteacher organised their annual Christmas party by booking us in to serve our festive menu. Mary enjoyed our pork roast so much that she immediately came looking for our contact details so that she would know where to look if ever she put on her own event. We hadn’t heard from her since then, as obviously she was saving us for the really big occasion: retirement!

With a guest list of around 100, including family, friends and co-workers, our Hog Roast Ashton Under Lyne chefs thought it best to go with one of Mary’s favourite pork roasts along with a lamb roast – which we were also informed she is nominally a big fan of – and a veggie option too. Together with our accompanying sides of roast and buttered new potatoes, seasonal mixed veg, mixed leaves, homemade slaw, and small canape bites for guest arrival, there was more than enough to feed everyone.

The night was a wonderful dedication to Mary’s time as a teacher, with speeches from her current headteacher and past colleagues, as well as family who are excited to see her step into the next chapter of life and enjoy her new leisurely time away from work. When chatting to her, we were told there are already plenty of plans for the year to travel to America for a long holiday in the summer, and far more to come later in the year now that she is no longer restricted to the school holidays only.
